kp and me: Angelina Roerich

When leaving school, Angelina Roerich was looking to develop her skills through an apprenticeship. However, she didn’t bargain for one so full of adventures and opportunities and feels her time at kp has set her up for success.

angelina1I’m Angelina Roerich. I’m a General Administration Apprentice at kp and I work in Montabaur, Germany. I’m also a Youth and Trainee Representative on our Works Council.

I joined the company in August 2021. As part of my apprenticeship rotation, I’ve had the opportunity to work with 14 different teams over the last 2.5 years. This has helped me build a clear picture of how different functions contribute to the company’s overall success, and I’ve met lots of great people along the way!

What is the best thing about your team?

As an apprentice, I don’t have a team as such – but I’ve been welcomed by every department I’ve spent time with and put this down to the warm and friendly culture at kp. I also feel supported by the other 30 apprentices here in Montabaur. We look out for each other and enjoy social events a few times a year.

What excites you about your job?

I wanted to work at kp as I thought the apprenticeship would be a great way to get ready for the world of work. It has certainly delivered on that; no two days have felt the same and I’ve developed new skills and tried so many new things. I’ve spent time in production, finance, HR, marketing and communications, procurement and more. What other position allows you to try out so many different roles?
I have also loved the varied nature of the tasks I’ve been given to work on. And I feel I can make a real contribution to the experience of other apprentices through my role on our Works Council. I got voted in as one of the three Youth and Trainee Representatives which means I attend weekly meetings, listen to the concerns of others and ensure our voices are heard by the business.

I was only 16 when I started at kp. When I think back to my first few weeks, I was quite shy and not particularly confident. But that has certainly changed; the open and welcoming nature of everyone at kp has made me feel really supported.
I stepped out of my comfort zone last summer when I was given the opportunity to take an internship in Dublin, Ireland, for three weeks. This allowed me to see how other companies work, and to use the skills I’d developed in a different role. And bring a new perspective back to kp.
The open and welcoming nature of everyone at kp has made me feel really supported.

Have you been inspired by any of your colleagues?

I really enjoyed my communications rotation - so much so that I’m now working with the team again on an apprenticeship web project. I thank the whole team for their support and for taking the time to help me develop new skills. It was also amazing to be part of the most recent communications team workshop – which luckily for me took place in London, England, in December. After full days of work, I got to explore the city which was very busy in the run-up to Christmas.

angelina3I’d love to continue my career journey at kp. I have a passion for marketing and communications, but I’ve also developed many transferable skills, so I look forward to exploring my options and securing a job when my apprenticeship programme ends this summer. But first off, I need to get good grades in my final apprenticeship exam and presentation.

What do you get up to outside of work?

I am a keen reader and have plans to write a book one day. I also enjoy singing – not many people know it, but I used to be in a band, and I sang at my school graduation prom!
